The other really big change is that I'm no longer planning on printing books. Electronic copies of the Slot Card Guide will be available for download from my website at www.slotcardguide.com starting in January 2015 if all goes as planned. In lieu of selling copies as in the past, copies are of the guide will be FREE while donations would be appreciated to help cover costs and the efforts to keep this document going. I'll be adding a PayPal "DONATE" button on the website when the files are available so you can easily donate any amount you feel comfortable contributing to the cause. Or you can mail any newly found slot cards you'd like to contribute as well as any accumulations of slot cards you no longer want, etc.
With all the constant changes as we work on the ChipGuide, plus all the new cards being released, I think the guide needs to be updated much more frequently than every 2 years as was done in the past. I'm actually planning on posting a new release every 3 months so you can grab a new copy whenever you want to update. What I have in mind is to color code all changes and additions in each release in RED so they can be easily identified. Then I'll reset everything to black for the next release and start over. If I keep previous editions on the website there would be some historical information available if needed.
The idea is that instead of trying to manage subscriptions and distributing new releases when not everyone may want them I'll just post new editions on a regular basis and then each individual can determine how often they want to update and grab a copy when they want it.
If you still want a printed book, the Adobe Acrobat (pdf) file will be available and you can get a copy printed at your local Staples or other printing service. In the end, it would be cheaper for you then for me to print and ship a copy. Plus it eliminates my extra cost for all the unsold books that have happened in the past. If someone still wants a printed copy and can't get it printed locally I should still be able to get one printed for you but I will not be printing a large quantity of books as before.
So if you're using a printed book or an electronic copy of the guide to track your collection and only want to migrate that information every year or so, you'll still have the option of accessing other editions for reference and you only have to update your records whenever you want to do it.
I think this will make the guide a lot more useful in the long run and hopefully get more people interested in collecting, especially with all the changes in the slot guide that link to the ChipGuide.
