Unfortunately card cloning (also called 'skimming') has been around for a couple decades. As more and more companies use cards, the thieves have just resorted to using those as 'blanks' rather than counterfeiting the entire card. NFC (Near Field Communication) cards (like RFID) are the latest thing, but the real problem is many of them are not encrypted - making it easy to capture the data 'in the air' and then write it to the card. Until there is a mass-adoption of one technology that allows for encryption, this will continue to be an issue...
