In going through my cards from the convention (including those I got at the trade room, in the dealers' area, and in the casinos running around Las Vegas) I have found surprise varieties that I want to share with all of you, especially as some of them may have been missed without careful examination. Here is one I didn't spot until I got back and compared the card I just got with the last card from this casino in my collection. The type 7 card from Orleans that I got a year and a half ago has the same front (light green alligator with horn in front of the "B") as the new card, but on the back there are some changes even for collectors like myself who ignore magnetic stripe color/width variations. The first thing I noticed is that the old card had a mfg mark line that was 1" long -- the new one has it 1 1/4" long. But if you look carefully at the text on the back there is a major change! The old card - "...intended for both slot and table play which must be..." and the new card says "...intended for slot play which must be..." I guess this will have to be called the type 8 card. At the Coast Casinos locations (Orleans, Sun/Gold/Barbary Coast) they said the plans to link the four properties together for card use is planned for this fall. Something to look forward to. Don't know if this will change the cards when the plan goes into effect.
