Thanks for your kind thoughts and prayers everyone. Ed’s surgery went well today. While they had him open the surgeon said that one vertebrae had really closed in on the nerve in one area which the MRI didn’t show the extent of it exactly. So he cleaned that all out – which was probably the cause of all his pain – but he fused the vertebrae together as planned. So hopefully he’ll feel much better in a few weeks although he’ll be restricted with bending, twisting and lifting. He didn’t have any heart problems. He was still somewhat groggy from the anesthetics when I left the hospital this evening. Operation took about 4 hours – an hour longer because of cleaning out around that nerve plus Ed is a bleeder – ever since he had the heart attack in 1995 and had the super blood thinner, he bruises easily and when he cuts himself, he bleeds rather easily. So that part was no surprise to me. I just talked with him on the phone and they sat him up on the edge of the bed this evening and he'll get to walk some tomorrow. We have a tri-level house so he's got to manage stairs before he comes home, so he's got a lot of improving to do yet.
If all goes well, he should get to come home Saturday.
