A couple of weeks ago, I noticed a posting on the Chipboard where someone was talking about a nomination for the SCOTY - Slot Card Of the Year - Award. The posting showed the Laughlin Ramada Express Veterans card and the poster said he thought that was a really nice card. Someone who runs the "--OTY" program for the Casino Chip And Gaming Token Collectors' Club replied that the card, since it was issued prior to January 1, 2002, was not eligible for contention for the first award. Which brought me to thinking about this very problem. What is eligible? What came out after or before the first of the year? I have pulled out a sampling of cards to go over that very problem. Once I have resolved certain questions, I would like to make some postings here and on the Chipboard (to share info with CC & GTCC members who are not Slot Card collectors) so that any and all people who will be able to vote can see what their options are.
Shown here are a bunch of cards, most of which I am sure came out since January 1st. The Rampart Rewards, Sam's Town Prime Rewards, Riverside Player's Club, Ramada Express high level cards, and PT's Mining three different cards (Silver and Copper cards shown here thanks to Mike Robison) are all definately eligible. The Poker Palace Gold Club, Hard Rock Platinum and Barbary Coast Fun Club cards are ones I am pretty sure came out after 1-1-2002. The Silver Nugget card was not out when I was in LV back in December, and I think it was at least January before it came out. I got the Carson Valley Inn one in trade and don't know when it came out. I just got the Virgin River Royalty Card and the Casablanca Card, and again I don't think they have been out too long. The Saddle West and Pahrumph Nugget cards are two more I got in trades (since I didn't have time for a run up to Pahrump) and I guess as being less than seven months issued. I also guess the MGM Mirage and Gold Star card for Magic Star/Gold Rush. are pretty recent. Finally, I recall the Harrah's Life Card came out just after I was down in Chicago for the mid-March collector's show. I know that because I never hit the Chicago area boats except when I run down to the spring show, and when I was there I wasn't looking ofr that card -- it had not been issued yet.
I am sure there are many other cards that have been released since January 1st, and we can help promote the first SCOTY Award by posting and showing people exactly what has come out in the proper time frame. Otherwise the only ones people will know about are the new cards Scott tells us about from ACC. Which may be how he plans to have a card of his win...
So, what do the rest of you have to say about this?
