English Cards

As promised, I was going to post some scans of my English casino membership cards, but unfortunately I don't have a web site so I don't think it's possible (If someone can tell me how to post the scan, or is willing to post them if I send via email then please let me know). However, for now if you'd like to see them just drop me an email and I'll send you the scans. One of the fronts and one of the back of the new Westcliff card which has the member's photo on it (i.e. mine!)

None of these casinos have slot clubs, but all have memberships cards as it's a legal requirement here to be a member of a casino, or a guest of one, before you enter. Membership is (usually) free, and you have to join 24 hours in advance of your first (gambling) visit. You can join by post / email, and then just bring your photo ID along on the day, but it's always worth checking that they received your application if you do this. Unfortunately it also means there is no way of getting hold of a card without turning up in person. The law is supposed to be changing soon, but these are the rules for now.

This is also the reason that traders are hard to come by. Firstly they won't issue blanks, in the same way that you wouldn't expect to be able to get hold of blank driving licences. (OK, maybe not quite as important, but you get the idea). Also, asking for a duplicate means re-applying, which was the case at the Westcliff when I tried this recently. What I didn't realise was that they had changed cards, and so instead of getting a trader, I picked up a new card. Next time I go I'll try and get another one and so finally have a trader!

The new (white) Westcliff card also has my photo on the back (scan available if you email me). All casinos now seem to take your photo so that when you arrive, they swipe the card and your picture appears on the screen, so as to avoid non-members using your card.

The only manufacturer identified on the back is on the Ladbrokes Sporting Casino card, and is NBS BULL - well, that's what appears in the top right corner anyway, so I think it's the supplier.

Sorry I couldn't get the scans on here yet, but feel free to ask any questions. Jason
