What do you think?

What do you think about removing names and account numbers from slot cards?

It seems to me that fewer and fewer people are collecting slot cards. I pondered this observation and came up with the idea that other people's names on cards, tend to discourage newcomers.

Does a "found" card belong to the finder, the person named on it, or the casino?
Most cards state that the card always belongs to the casino, but I've never known of a casino asking for one back!

Perhaps if we remove the names and numbers. more people would tend to collect them. Also they would seem to be more eBay friendly.

OK, how do you remove the names?

I do not remove them for my collection. But I have experimented useing solvents such as GOOF-OFF or GOO-GONE XTREME. These are powerful gum/ink/paint/etc. removers available in most hardware stores.

Place some solvent oa a cloth and rub the names and numbers off. BE CAREFUL, these soivents can and will remove signature strips and/or magnetic strips!

Do not think that you can make a blank card out of any issued card by erasing it. The screening process used to put names on uses heat which slightly indents the card. the ink can be erased, but not these slight indentations. They are barely visible, but are detectable.

Of course, if you are going to erase the printed information, you should also erase the magnetic information. This is done by moving a strong magnet accross the mag strip a couple of times.

These steps make the card unusable for fraud and that should make any casino happy. And hopefully bring a few more collectors to our hobby.
