I try and list all of the $1 chips that I need on my want lists -- some are current $1 chips and others, as you note, are worth considerably more. I’m not the only collector that does this -– most everyone does. I assume someone wanting a slot card or room key will trade for one of the current $1 chips and not for a $1500 chip.

Give the people in this hobby some credit Archie and stop stirring up controversy where there is none.
